- Rolling Stone
Set in early 19th century France, it is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving sister's child.
Valjean decides to break his parole and start life anew after a kindly bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy. Valjean transforms himself to become mayor and the owner of a factory.
But when he is moved to help one of his former workers, Fantine, his past is brought to light and he is forced to abandon everything to run from the relentless Police Inspector Javert who is set on bringing him to justice.
With Javert on the hunt and a revolution tearing the city apart, all are forced to question what they will sacrifice in pursuit of love and justice.
